May 29th's Intro To MTBing Ride for Heartwood Riders
Ride Date: May 28th
Times: 9:30am to 1:30pm
Location: Meet beside Sunshine Bikes
Who: Heartwood Friends (boys and girls welcome)!
What To Bring:
A well tuned bike with front and rear brakes, gears and wide knobby tires that are built to be taken mountain biking.
An undamaged well fit helmet, lots of snacks and plenty of water are all required. We recommend your rider also bring gloves, light weight pads, protective eyewear and a warm layer if appropriate.
Our Ride:
We’ll be riding to Glen drive and then heading up Old Railroad, work our way up Porcupine and then come down the same way. This mostly beginner to intermediate level route will give us a fun ride that has challenging sections and a long climb. Riding up this small mountain can be really fun but only if our riders come prepared. Please see the above list of gear and also pack a lunch for your rider.
Please go over your riders bike with them and address any mechanical issues that may cause problems on the trail. Also, please help your student pack all of their cycling gear including their helmet, bike gloves, a spare tube, lots of food and plenty of water. Also, I recommend a light wind beaker or rain jacket (when appropriate) that can be carried in a pocket. Light weight knee pads, elbow pads and protective eyewear are, also, recommended. For riders who are allergic to poison oak, a single use packet (or reusable small container) of Tecnu is another great thing to pack.
Thanks!
